~~~~~~~~~~ Westport Intertrade & Vins Pour Dames De Qualite in collaboration with Penang Parkroyal Resort proudly presented
(in aid of "Kulim Sunshine Cottage" home for the abused and physically disabled children and adults)
We took a memorable journey through seven of the world's renowned wine growing countries at the splendid grounds of Penang Parkroyal Resort on Saturday, 3 November 2001. International Chef, Shane Giles (from Australia) of Tiffins, Parkroyal surprised us with a superb creation of his delectable gourmet cuisines from Australia, California, Chile, Italy, France, South Africa and Argentina. Unique wine varietals, blends and grape characteristics from the Old World to the New World - wonderful selection of over 20 wines from 7 countries - were tasted. We started our journey with a welcome reception at the Beach Front, Penang Parkroyal Resort and watched the magnificent sunset with the Parkroyal Beach Boys serenading old favourites.
The escapade began in California with the fresh California Zinfandel or Chardonnay paired with Coriander Tiger Prawns on Corn Bread and a Californian Inspired Salad.
The journey then continued Down Under. Moving to the Tiffin Foyer, we had an Australian aborigine playing the Didgeridoo - sitting on a Sand Dune. Heard the magnificent sounds of the Didgeridoo as our guests sipped the Aussie Cabernet Shiraz and Semillon Chardonnay and nibbled on some Smoked Roo (Kangaroo) on Scones and Fresh Australian Rock Oysters with Salsa.
Europe, here we come !! Ole' Italia - Sailing on the Gondola whilst listening to Pavarotti's operatic arias at the Jintan Room. A range of world loved favorites - Soave, Valpolicella, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio and Chianti. Our guests imagined themselves on the Gondola whilst enjoying Spinach and Cheese Ravioli & Asparagus Roll with Salmon. We didn't forget the Bruschetta with Toppings ! Romantic France was the next stopover, scene of Parisian Cafe also at Jintan Room.
Catching a glimpse of Moulin Rouge and the Parisian cafes, our guest tasted the best of Bordeaux and Chateaux Wines. Duck Comfit served in a spoon or homemade Chicken Liver Pate on Melba Toast and Crudites with Cheese Curry Dip delighted our guests.
Next, we wound up with the South African Pinotage and Cabernet Sauvignon and savoured succulent Lamb and Beef Balls.
Next Scene was the Tango in Latin America at Tiffins. We went Latin and stepped into South America. We had Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon or Sauvignon Blanc. Among the delightful bites from this part of the world is the Caribou Empanadas (stuffed puff pastry with South American vegetables). We didn't forget the Argentinean Malbec or Barbera. Those wines were matched perfectly with the ever famous Creole Stuffed Poultry. We also savoured the renowned Torta de Chocolate (Chocolate Tart).
