Chateau de Montesquieu 1995 AOC Coteaux du Languedoc Red
Vineyard & Production: 50% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 20% Mourvédre Hand-picked harvest. This wine is made solely from these three recommended noble grape variety : Mourvédre gives it its distinctive nature and structure, Syrah the bouquet of red berries and its reddish violet color, and Grenache. The three grape varieties are vinified separately by carbonic maceration (25 days), then blended in fixed proportions. This gives the wine with a rich color, well structured and well balanced, with a powerful nose of red berries (cherries), and chocolate, set off by a suggestion of spicy liquorice.
Characteristics: Dark purple colour with black flashes; a ripe fruit nose of red berries and chocolate with hints of spice; a well-balanced wine with smooth tannins and a long finish. It is a complex wine, long on the palate, and will age well. Sumptuous with game or fermented cheeses.
Awards: Gold Medal at the '96 and '97 Macon Competitions. |
