"This property has clearly rebounded from a prolonged period of mediocrity, as evidenced by what they have achieved in 1997 and 1998 (the finest Rouget since their glory years of the forties, fifties, and early sixties). To reiterate, this opaque ruby/purple-colored 1998 is the finest Rouget produced since the 1964, 1961, and 1947. Overriped prunes, black fruits,

and cherries soar from the glass of this dense, unctuously-textured effort. It is full-bodied, with fabulous fruit, moderate tannin, and a chewy, concentrated mouth-feel. I am scoring it

conservatively, but if it is not excessively fined or filtered at bottling, it will merit a score of 90. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring; it should last for 15-17 years. Impressive!"
