La Fiole du Pape Chateauneuf-de-Pape

History:

Pére Anselme created in the 1950’s, in collaboration with glass craftsmen and ceramists this original bottle which shape reminds the Rhône Valley vine plants. This wine is non vintaged because it is a blend of our best "cuvées" from different vintages. Therefore the constant high quality from one year to another explains its worldwide success: it is one of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape bottles the most sold in the World.

Soils:

Alpine terraces with big rolled pebbles, "pudding stones", plus sand and chalk.

Grape Varieties:

80% Grenache brings roundness.

7% Syrah brings color and aromas.

7% Mourvédre brings tannins and ageing capacity.

6% Cinsault brings finesse.

Wine-Making:

Whole grapes, not destemed. 15 days of maceration at a temperature of 30ºC. Aged in our cellars 1 to 5 years in 45 hectolitre oak casks. Rigorous selection and skillful blend of young and old wines in order to obtain a continuous quality.

Characteristics:

Garnet red color with brick-red nuances showing a good maturity. Complex nose: dry fruit, wood, truffle, venisson, spices…all in a perfect harmony. In the mouth, the wines surprises by its onctuousity at first and its powerful tannins on the end.

Our advice:

This wine, always ready to drink when the customer buys it, will improve even more within the next 3-4 years. Goes very well with all meats and cheeses.

Wine Spectator Reviews:

Saturated ruby purple. Full-bodied. Full-acidity. Lots of fruit. Moderately tannic. Black fruit. Baked fruit, spices. Big aromas showing some pleasant oxidation lead into a silky, rich,, even polished mouthfeel. Though not hugely complex, some delicious maturity is showing. Slightly a typical for a Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
